Types of broadband available
Posted On Monday, August 2nd, 2010 By
ADSL is the most widespread form of broadband (asymmetric digital subscriber line) as is offered by many broadband suppliers today; however there are also cable, satellite and wireless options across various parts of the UK. Through all these communication systems almost 100 per cent of the UK is covered. To find out what type of broadband you can receive in your area, a good idea would be to use a postcode checker through comparison sites like Top10.com. The postcode checker simply lists all the different broadband deals available to you in your area making it easier for you to make a decision on what package to go for.
ADSL uses your existing landline for you to be able to receive the Internet. This type of connection is ten times faster than dial up connections and in most cases works out cheaper as broadband deals are becoming very competitive as providers strive to offer the best deal.
If ADSL isn’t available to you, you can opt for satellite, wireless and cable connections. Cable connections were primarily installed to deliver television services and most commonly found in domestic areas. It is not usually common to have cable connections on business premises.
There is another option for businesses who need high data and bandwidth requirements through a connection called SDSL (symmetric digital subscriber line) It is mostly used for business hosting their own website or mail servers or for companies who need to be able to send and receive data at the same speed. The connection is faster but does require a dedicated router and a new line just for SDSL.
And if you are a business man or woman on the go and need access to your emails throughout the day, then why not look into getting a USB dongle. That way you can access the Internet wherever you are at affordable prices if you use a search comparison site like Top10.com to help you find the best deal for you.
